Ban That is thirty kilometres south of the Vat Phou Temple
Complex. In this small village, the "village of the towers", are
the remains of three square, unfinished prasat (12th century)
erected by Subhadra, a Brahman. Scholars think Subhadra may
be the same person as Divakarapandita, King Jayavarman VI's
guru. The site is particularly important because of the stele in
front of the towers. The stele is inscribed on all four sides and
provides scholars with much valuable historical information
about Khmer history. At the time of the towers' construction,
King Jayavarman VI (1080-1107) worshipped Shiva and
honoured the Brahman for his religious and literary talents.
A large baray can still be seen next to the temple.
